Our classroom is in need of a better table for us to meet at during guided reading and math groups. Guided reading and math is when the teacher meets with a small group of students who are grouped based on their reading or math levels. During this time the teacher has the opportunity to better meet the needs of all the children in a small group setting, where they can work at or slightly above their ability levels. During guided reading/math time the students will practice sight words, phonics, write sentences, use math manipulatives, play math games and solve problems. They will also "whisper read" leveled reading books. This is one of the reasons the "U" shaped table works so well because the teacher can easily hear all the student whisper when sitting so close to every child in the group.
