My students love it when they get a new issue of Scholastic News! It is popular science and current events for first graders. Not only are they working on developing their informational reading skills, but they are also improving their math and writing skills at the same time. Students are eager to share the interesting science and social studies facts they learned with their families and friends. I love how it makes my students ask questions and want to dig deeper into the topic of the week and do research on their own. Parents are always impressed with what they share at the dinner table.
