Hello, I teach in a Title 1, high needs school. I left the corporate world 2 years ago to teach art, and I am still shocked at how little resources there are available for art! I am thrilled though, with the children's excitement and enthusiasm! My students (1000+ of them, K-5) are mostly rural and at risk. They have not been exposed much to art. When I show an oil pastel for the first time, it is like a new video game would be to other children! I have been able to do so much, with so little, because they are excited about most every art medium! We say here at school, "you get what you get, and you don't pitch a fit!" because we are trying to prepare them for broken crayons, and nearly dried up glue sticks etc.! They take it quite well! I want to do a printing project with these children so they can have a worthwhile, unusual art piece to take home with them before Summer break.
