School is so different from when I was in elementary school. I was expected to sit at my desk, not talk, and not move around. Times have changed and so must our classroom. Flexible seating encourages children to get up, move, and find a seating choice and space in the classroom that works for them. It is amazing to watch 8-year-olds choose responsibly where to sit and work. Flexible seating naturally encourages collaboration. Children need to talk and work together. There are so many benefits of flexible seating. Children feel empowered to choose their own seat. They get to sit where they are most comfortable. Chances are if they are comfortable they will not be a distraction to their classmates and will be more focused on their work. Children love being able to make choices for themselves. Having enough seating options within the classroom is crucial.
