In the past, my students have voiced an interest in making our community a more beautiful place. Last year we went around our school collecting trash so that we could spend the next 2 class periods turning that trash into art. This year we want to kick our involvement up a notch by cleaning out our local waterways. The waders are going to be used so that we can go to the bayou directly behind our school and remove trash (tires, chairs, etc.) that we've seen in previous visits. The fish tank parts will be used to replace our current aging supplies. I've been teaching at my school for six years and the amount of working parts keeps slowly diminishing. A big part of our class is settin up a fish tank into a well functioning ecosystem. The tanks are maintained throughout the year, allowing us to connect the importance of what we're learning in aquatics class to their own fish.
