My first graders are always wanting to move, dance, and sing while they are learning. During our school day we are only allowed 15 minute unstructured recess time, weather permitting. This is not enough time to allow some of my students to get all of their wiggles out. I do allow my students to move throughout the day, but their are some times when they need to sit and focus on a task at their desk. We are in need of 5 Wobble chairs for our classroom. When you allow a first grader to move while working, they will be more focused and more engaged on their work. Studies show that students learn and retain more information if they are moving while they are working.
