We'll be dancing in the classroom to Lin-Manuel Miranda's first musical while learning what it means to be an American. Identifying and analyzing character development, motifs, and themes is more relevant and fun to the tunes of this great musical. Beyond the literary devices we'll practice, my students will investigate identity, study America's diverse immigrant roots (including the history of Houston), and research local issues like the Texas power outage and gentrification. This musical will be one of the sources included in their junior year research paper. These class sets will help all three teachers in my team have enough copies of the libretto to ensure that all students have the ability to participate in class with their own book.
