This year I am lucky to have a truly wonderful class. My students are curious and have already expressed an interest in learning more about Science and Social Studies. Unfortunately, for many of my students they are unable to experience many of the wonders in those areas. Sadly, many do not have access to books or newspapers unless they are in my classroom. Many of my students read on a second grade level, some even read on third or fourth grade levels, and I do have a few that read below grade level. I truly believe that exposing these students to interesting, relevant, nonfiction articles in the areas of Science and Social Studies I will be able to help them grow as readers. For some of my students the biggest issue is comprehending what is going on in a text. I believe that reading these magazines will help boost their comprehension.
