Van Buren school has an obesity problem. Many kids at this school are not given the opportunities to move in their lives due to financial limitations which limit their movement outside of school. They are also challenged by their lack of space in which to move in. Physical Education class is a chance for these kids to move freely through games and new activities. These games and activities are vital to these children as it can be the only exercise they might get during the day. Please help us get new equipment for our gym. Kids Love to Move. Things like soft balls help kids to develop throwing and catching skills. At Van Buren we do many games that require the students to roll, throw, chase, and catch balls that are thrown to them. One item we need to upgrade is the balls we use at Van Buren. Many of the ones we have ripped or lack softness. My students also love to experience movement through scooters. The type of scooter we use in our PE classes is called Roller Racers . This type of scooter we use in gym works coordination balance and building strength in students. Currently our scooters are broken or lack range of motion. We would really like to upgrade these. Students at Van Buren use pogo sticks in gym as a great way to move. They encourage our kids to think outside the box for new ways to exercise. Many kids who are not great at sports love pogo sticks and use them to get exercise. This also builds their self esteem. Please help us get new pogo sticks.
