My Kindergarten students are growing up in a world where nearly 90 percent of high-school graduates are not interested in a career involving science, technology, engineering or math. As an early childhood educator, my job is to break the cycle of "I'm not good at math." or "Science is too hard." My students are curious, they need to touch, play, and explore STEM concepts with hands on materials. They need to be immersed in hands-on learning activities that are not only fun but engaging, academic, and can provide them with a play-based foundation for so many important STEM concepts. In our town there is a major Intel campus. Students see this daily and it serves as a wonderful reminder as to how important math, science and engineering can be in our local economy as well as all over the world.
