My students are from downtown Washington, DC. I have around 80 rambunctious first graders that see me for phonics, writing, and science. I feel so lucky to teach science. Science is a way to transport my students to the jungles of Brazil, to allow them to get to know Amelia Earhart, and to help them understand why they have brown eyes instead of blue. It makes my students ask questions, and wonder, and discover. In school systems everywhere, science, writing, and technology demands are growing, and DC is no different. My school especially values these topics, and not just for test taking, but for life in general.
