My students are rural students who come from central North Carolina. My students come from homes that 75% percent of their parents have never been to college. I come from a school that 80% of students are on free and reduced lunch. I come from a school where 60% of students are reading below grade level. My students come from all kinds of cultural backgrounds and work their absolute hardest to achieve their goals,but often times the obstacles they face are very difficult to overcome. My schools is a school that has tremendous teacher turnover, teachers are looking to leave as soon as possible because students need our constant attention and dedication on a daily basis. My students come from a place where they are lucky if they have food on the table let alone a book to read on a nightly basis.
