Our school is a federally funded tribal grant school on the Pine Ridge Reservation, where students lack access to many resources. My students are brilliant kids that often get bored in their classes due to the lack of academic rigor and stimulating material. Thus, the Math/Science team was created to provide them a safe place after school to be challenged academically, expand their horizons with competitions, and hang out to have safe academic fun. They are starving to learn more and simply require the opportunity along with supplies. At the Math/Science team, students are able to compete in nationwide competitions, as well as attend the Science Olympiad. In order to practice with the materials needed, as well as to be competitive at the state and national level, students need exposure to the technology provided at other schools.
