I teach at a Title I school in Florida. Almost 80% of students that attend my school are on free or reduced price lunch. In the two years that I have been teaching, my classrooms have been very diverse. I have had students in my classroom who were originally from the Dominican Republic as well as students who were originally from Romania. Students in my classroom know that it is a place of stability and a place where they are safe. I make my students understand that failure is unavoidable. I make them realize that failing gives them the opportunity to become better. Students leave my classroom believing in themselves and knowing that effort and hard work can trump natural ability any day. A slogan that I use in my classroom is "Go be great," because students can apply that to all aspects in their lives. They can be a great brother or sister. They can be a great friend. They can be a great role model in their community. And above all, they can be a great student.
