Our children are our greatest resource in our efforts to stop the spread of global warming. As a fifth grade teacher in a high-need community in Nevada, I have seen my students take an enormous interest in environmental issues. While they are interested, however, many still struggle to navigate through difficult nonfiction texts. As their teacher it is my goal to help them become independent thinkers and readers who consider a problem and try to look for a solution, but it has been difficult to find nonfiction text that inspire much enthusiasm from my students.
