This school year I provide special education services to 42 Kindergarten-5th grade students with varying disabilities; ranging from learning- to developmental delays- to autism. I teach in a Title-One school where families come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds, and where the majority of students come from Spanish speaking homes. My students are inquisitive, caring, energetic, and they love to come to school to learn, despite their academic limitations. This school year, funds have been very low, especially since our Override did not pass last school year. We are limited in supplies and equipment for our classrooms. My students deserve the opportunity to engage in literacy with repeat exposures to text. A listening center will provide just that; an opportunity to explore reading in a new and repetitive way, specific to their needs.
