Our school is an ethnically-diverse one; we have 40% white, 30% African American and 30% Hispanic students. These students are also diverse in their socioeconomic statuses- some are in the Performing and Visual Arts magnet program at the school, and some are not. The ones who are not may come to school depending on the free breakfast in the morning to eat. My students are 11 and 12 and many have not caught the passion of reading. I want to offer them a class library of age-appropriate books that they can journey through and forget obstacles in their real lives.
