A lot of my students do not have computers or internet at home to access reading sites. Most of them do not have books at home. The parents are working hard to put food on the table and reading is not top of their to do list. I have a system of prizing the students when they complete a star chart for daily participation in class discussions. When they complete their star chart, they get to take a beautiful, new book home. The books are stories that we have read and loved in the classroom. What better prize than that?
