The classroom environment can be a source of sensory overload for our autistic, ED, anxious, and ADHD/ADD students. Therefore, tools for focus, calming, and self-soothing are essential to ensure success in the mainstream classroom. Neurodiverse students exert extreme psychological and emotional energy when navigating their way through a school day. Tools that allow students to break away and recharge honor the effort they put forth to be the best they can be. Sensory pathways and weighted blankets bring the escape and comfort that can set them up for success for the rest of their day. Choice in seating options allows "wiggle room" for students to be themselves without disrupting the learning environment. Bean bags and wiggle seats for carpet time increase the likelihood that the student will successfully be part of the group. Stools that can be easily slid under the desk allow students to stand and work when needed. Fidgets and weighted lap buddies provide comfort when anxiety is triggered, or a student is struggling to attend. Thank you for being a part of our educational journey.
