My 3rd-5th grade students are students who need support in growing to meet on-level literacy expectations. Students receiving reading intervention in my classes are scoring the 39th-60th percentile and often struggle not just in reading, but in other content areas as well. These students learn in an online education setting for various reasons. Students participate in the science of reading-based literacy practices in an online live learning experience that targets instruction based on large-group, small-group, and individual learning needs. Classes are taught in theme-based units that are high content and high engagement. In each course, I ensure students are working on the essential components of literacy. Students work daily on phonics skills, fluency practice, comprehension, and critical thinking. Additionally, students actively engage in writing, both collaboratively and individually.
