With my students being both new to the United States and English, I need a way to grab their attention and keep them focused. Studies show that color stimulates the brain, which is why I use lots of it to help new vocabulary "stick". Our interactive notebooks use colored paper, a variety of vibrant envelopes, uniquely designed pockets, and colored pencils. Learning a new language is difficult and frustrating , so taking a few extra moments to relax while cutting and coloring, helps my students feel more comfortable in their new environment, and therefore they are more successful in learning a new language.
