Far too many students leave first grade unprepared for the years to come. The lack of exposure to diverse grade level text plays a large role in their ability to read and build their vocabulary. For years, we have been providing our students with text at their current reading level which not only keeps them far behind their peers but decreases their exposure to vocabulary that would support their reading skills. This leads to students having to take remedial classes in college or starting jobs where they realize they are missing skills. Please help me prepare my students for college and career readiness!
