The students in my class are taking algebra. In Utah, this translates to Secondary Math I and II. A lot of the concepts they use, can be accomplished on a graphing calculator. In fact, much of the work they do, should be done on a graphing calculator. Individual calculator 'labs' are taught just before they correspond to a given lesson or standard. If the students have the calculators at home, they can complete these 'labs' and move forward with their knowledge base. As my students advice to higher level math, they will need these calculator skills.
