There are 29 students in my 5th grade class, 16 girls and 13 boys. The class is predominantly white, with 2 African-American students and 1 Hispanic student. Many are athletes, including a state-recognized gymnast and many team sports players. All share a passion for new experiences and a love of learning. They're hard-working and they're students of great character. I have several students with significant behavior concerns, academic disabilities, particularly ADHD related impairments, and one student with an Asperger's diagnosis. The demographics of my class represent our school as a whole quite well. My school, as well as our community, prides itself in our academic progress and the quality of education in the area. We also embrace new, cutting-edge instructional strategies, technology, and research-based initiatives. The students in my class are dedicated to academics, but struggle at times with attention deficits or the distraction from their classmates' struggles.
