Hello, I teach 4th and 5th grade literacy at an elementary school in West Palm Beach, Florida. The students read at a variety of levels. One of their reading goals is to respond to what they have read in a reading journal. These discussions can include synthesizing new information, character analysis and description, as well as comparing and contrasting what they are reading to other books and topics they are familiar with. Many of my students are very engaged learners who seem to thrive when physical activity is incorporated into learning. They are able to move around the classroom in order to find places they are comfortable working. For some students this may be a table, the carpet or a desk. Other students work best when they are able to move around, this may include sitting on a balance ball or disc.
