I teach special education, Mild Intellectual Disabilities, in the high school. Most of my students are very socially functional but work at an elementary level. The high school is in the lower income area, with a large percentage qualifying for the free and reduced lunches. These students are very diverse and many learn visually. They need to have things read to them in order for them to understand, because they are poor readers or can not visually comprehend the text. Most of my students have some sort of dysgraphia, which is the inability to write legibly. They do not have the coordination or they write very large. If they write notes or need to do math work, it can take several sheets of paper. These students are hard working.
