Unfortunately, I have also found that affluent students tend to receive a better education in public schools, because of resources provided by parents or PTO. I think that education has been set up in a way to purposely keep the social classes separate through the zoning process. I am an educator who is passionate about creating a Title I classroom environment that centers around allowing individuality, creativity, life skills, and higher thinking academics. My students can come together daily to share their knowledge and love of learning on the Out of this World classroom learning carpet.
My flexible seating initiative will hopefully help close the achievement gap with my minority and low socioeconomic students. I want to create a classroom culture that includes effective communication, trust, understanding, respect for all student learning styles and academic abilities. In public education we have stripped away our children’s individuality and creativity by being test and data driven. I can replace those robot like qualities by incorporating flexible seating and the Fidgety Feet fidget bands for extra movement. We can do individual research using the portable laptop desks. They should feel comfortable in class using during dependent and independent instruction using the Big Joe chairs and Norwood stock stools. I want get my students excited about coming to school and learning.
