My students are vibrant, interesting young people. In them, I see the qualities of success, determination and ability. However, many come from families that struggle. Poverty, homelessness, divorce, abuse, prison, drugs, and gangs are just some of the situations that have touched my students' lives. Everyday they see others making poor decisions and witness the effects of those decisions. Nevertheless, so many show up with positive attitudes, ready to learn and make something of themselves. They understand that education will change their lives and the lives of their families. They are wise beyond their years when it comes to real life situations, yet need the direction to grow academically to become someone who matters in the world. Many of my students are concerned with giving back to the community which I find admirable, since many of them have so little. Everyday they make me laugh and teach me something new as we work together to learn and reach the goals we set.
