I work with students who are between kindergarten thru fifth grade. I push into classrooms and help support students emotionally. Our building is also creating a Peace Room. The Peace Room is in need with materials to assist students in practicing Mindfulness techniques as they learn to self-regulate their emotions. Research has proven the effectiveness of mindfulness practices in increasing students' abilities to focus and tolerate stress, (such as the stress of rigorous academics program, peer strife, or challenging home life realities), resulting in higher academic achievement. More than half of our school is living below the average Illinois income.
