My classroom is made up of diverse English Language Learning 3rd graders in a Title I, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) school. My English Language Learners speak a variety of languages including Spanish, Arabic, Somali, and Nepalese. Our school is located in an area that includes government funded housing and 99% of our students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Many of my students live in small apartments with large, extended families. Many of my students will receive support from the clothing bank and community food bank throughout the school year. My students have limited access to books and learning materials outside of school. Despite all the challenges my students face they are excited to learn and can't wait to come to school each day.
