As educators, our ultimate goal is student success. With technology being on the rise and our district not having the technology resources that our kids are use to, we have to think of other ways to keep students engaged. In order to keep our students engaged and excited about learning, several of our educators have chosen to teach with interactive notebooks. Interactive notebooks are basically composition books that are used to organize notes. Typically, one side of the page is used for teacher input and the other for student input. We like to let our students personalize and decorate these notebooks so that they are proud of them and want to look at them. Our district is a Title I school and several of our students struggle to get school supplies. Basically, we are asking for donations so that we can lighten the expense of school supplies for our students. If we have class sets of things that we need for our Math, Reading and Science Interactive Notebooks, then we can ask our students to bring the bare necessities. Below are 7 reasons to use interactive notebooks. 7 Reasons to Use Interactive Notebooks 1. Interactive notebooks teach students to organize and synthesize their thoughts. 2. Interactive notebooks accommodate multiple learning styles at one time in (and out of) the classroom. 3. Student-teacher-parent interaction is built and strengthened with the use of interactive notebooks. 4. Students are building a portfolio that allows for teachers to track growth over time. 5. Interactive notebooks have students create a resource to use as they continue to extend their learning. 6. Students take ownership of their learning through color and creativity. 7. Interactive notebooks reduce clutter in the classroom, as well as in students’ lives.
