My school is a focus school that has not meet state standards in reading for the past two years. We are a Title I school with over 50% of our students receiving free/reduced lunch. Our students lack reading materials that relate to current events which motivate them to want to read and continue researching subjects that interest them. I want to facilitate project based learning where students read and collaborate to investigate meaningful questions that require them to gather information and think critically. Real-world problems capture students' interest and provoke serious thinking making them acquire and apply new knowledge in a problem-solving context.
