Our school houses a population that is predominantly Hispanic and is predominantly in the lower socio-economic strata. We have students whose first language is not English and who will be the first ones in their families to graduate high school and attend college. With that said, do note that we also have students who will not make such a positive transition through high school nor to life after high school. We know this, therefore, we choose to defy the odds and combat this situation with which we are faced. At our high school, we choose to be pro-active and not re-active. We choose to stare the problems we encounter in the face and then conquer them. One way we conquer our “lack of graduation issue” is through our 'Transition Camp' which we hold annually on the first two days of school for our incoming freshmen. Our principal allows us to forgo the traditional classroom setting on the first two days of school and orient our freshmen to the high school environment.
