The students in my Japanese Classes are a mix of cultures in grades 9 -12. Our school is situated in an economically disadvantaged location; however, the students are eager to learn Japanese. Cooking Japanese food and speaking about the food in Japanese is one of their favorite ways to learn the language. Most students do not have the money to purchase ingredients to make Japanese foods. Japanese Cooking Day is a favorite activity, but one that we can only do once a year because of the cost.
