Changes in education such as the more rigorous Common Core standards, computer-based state testing and our Next Generation science standards call for the use and understanding of technology. Our students need to be prepared to handle tasks and manipulate information successfully. I would like to empower my students by giving them access to more meaningful technology. This will motivate and engage them to monitor their own growth. These requested Apple iPad Air tablets with protective screen protectors will provide a mobile way for students to document and write about the informational pieces that they read. They will be able to listen to literature as well as practice their fluency. They will be able to monitor their behavior through their class dojo app. This app allows them to see weekly percentages and goals. It encourages good behavior and motivates them to complete all tasks. There are also apps that allow them to write journal entries and make a digital portfolio for their writing throughout the year. Providing students with these opportunities is especially important for those students in a low socio economic community. These students lack resources and motivation. iPads can expose them to more tools that will help them take an active approach to their learning.
