In my classroom, you will find a wide range of learners. These students are in a middle school 12:1:1 classroom setting due to their specific disabilities. The school is specialized for students in kindergarten through 8th grade with severe to profound disabilities. My students have severe cognitive deficits that prevent them from mainstreaming in the general education population. In class, there are students who can read and write independently, while others struggle to identify letters in the alphabet. This is true for all subject areas. Although these students are at the same chronological age group, their learning abilities are significantly different. At times, it can be a challenge to teach the entire class as a whole with such a large gap in learning needs. All of my students enjoy learning with technology. Technology (like computers, laptops, and iPads) gives them the opportunity to learn through various learning styles: auditorily, visually, and kinesthetically.
