The families of the students I teach often lack the means necessary to purchase school supplies. While my school does provide some basic supplies line pens and paper to each student, individual teachers are left with the responsibility of providing specific materials for the function of their classes.
It is crucial that each student has supplies of their own to care for. Organization and taking responsibility for one's belongings are not only essential for efficient learning in my classroom, but are life-long skills that my students will need in order to be successful throughout the rest of their academic experiences and beyond. In order to instill and develop these skills, organizational materials like binders and notebooks need to be available.
Students will use binders and tab dividers to organize vocabulary work, class notes, writing assignments, and to track their individual grades throughout the year. Composition notebooks will be used as reading response journals for Independent Reading books. Providing these materials will increase student investment and provide inspiring opportunities for students to see concrete evidence of their personal academic growth.
