Books on CD are a wonderful way for kindergartners to experience literature before they can read a book on their own. Introducing quality literature into the classroom is very important, and a listening center with bean bag chairs for comfy seating is a great way to do this. A listening center, that my students can learn to use on their own, will instill a sense of independence and will help grow their love of reading. At the beginning of the year, my students will listen to engaging stories that will help them learn how to follow along with the words in a book. By the middle of the school year, my students will be filling out response sheets for the stories they listen to. A listening center has been on my wish list for 2 years but without generous donations, the funds are not available to provide a listening center for my classroom.
