My school is almost 90% free or reduced lunch. Most of my students come from rough situations that are beyond their control. This weighs on their educations everyday in more than one way. They are involved in situations that don't allow them to be kids. I feel 90% of my students would prefer to be in my classroom than at home. I want to create this environment for them daily and let them have access to items they wont get to see anywhere else. This group of students have the best attitude towards learning and appreciate everything so much more. Our school meets the needs of several different types of students and backgrounds which makes it a little harder to provide these materials to our students. Most of the teachers in our school spend hundreds of dollars a year on their supplies in their classrooms. The money we do have available has to be spent on smaller supplies instead of items that can create a real learning environment.
