Typically I teach the 2nd grade sheltered ESOL (English as a Second Language) class at my school. This year I am able to combine my sheltered ESOL kiddos with another teacher that will be teaching an inclusion class of ESE and general education students. In short, another teacher and I will have 36 students whose needs will vary dramatically, including; students that have very limited English, students with special needs, and general education students. Second graders are the best because they are eager for knowledge and love to learn! Their minds are like sponges and absorb as much information I can give them! My school is 71% free or reduced lunch, which means a lot of our students come from low-income homes. Unfortunately, some of my students have a hard home life outside of school. I strive to make sure that my class is a safe and comfortable environment for all my students and I make sure that it is something they can look forward to everyday when they come to school.
