I am so excited to get started with book clubs that will allow students to engage in literature they find exciting and engaging. I have spent a great deal of time this summer reading and preparing to help students fall in love with reading by providing them with the opportunity to have great discussions with their peers. These books are of various topics and genres and will allow students to find at least one book they are interested in. Here is a little more about the book clubs I will be starting. Myth- Students will start by reading the Myth-o-Mania books and learning about Greek Mythology. They will then have the opportunity to move to the Percy Jackson series and if they desire, continue with more Rick Riordain books. Spooky- Students will start with the Jason Strange and Raven's Pass Books. These books provide a quick and engaging read, but then will be moved up to Goosebumps, Peg Kehret, and other "spooky" authors. Strength- Students in the strength group will read about characters that have overcome great obstacles, hardships, and struggles. The characters in these books grow, change, and become stronger because of their situations. The students in this group will read Because of Mr. Terupt, Front Desk, Cecilia Galante, Sharan Draper, and much more. War- This group will be for students invested in historical fiction and want to learn more about what people experienced during war. Students will read the Alan Gratz Novels, I Survived, and Michael Spradlin. Dystopian- Students in this group will have the opportunity to engage in science fiction reading. They will read books where there are many strange and difficult things happening in the world around them. Students in this group will read Haddix and City of Ember!
