I have precious students who live in a rural community. Due to the transient nature of my school's families, my class size ranges from 22-25 Many of them come from single family homes where the parents work hard to provide daily essentials. Our school consists of about 400 students where approximately 92% are free or reduced lunch students. Many of the parents do not have a high school education. They don't have the luxury to go on real life adventures or explore adventures through reading. Their home libraries are very small or nonexistent. When they come into first grade very few of them have the beginning foundation to start reading. Before they can actually begin reading they need exposure to written print and modeling of oral reading. They are very eager to learn and have great potential to be successful learners.
