My school is ranked in the top 50 high schools in CA and 90% go on to college, which makes the pressure on my students with various needs more acute. Although unaware, most are artistically inclined, and I have found that art therapy gives them a positive vehicle by which they can both express their emotions and decompress. Creating a lasting project such as our "Classroom Mural" (of animals created, refined, and applied by the students themselves) validates and empowers their sense of self.
