My students are young adults who have the most severe disabilities in our school and require specialized instruction in math, reading, writing, adaptive and social emotional skills. The disabilities range in severity and include students who have been diagnosed with autism, Prader-Willie disorder, cerebral palsy, seizure disorders and intellectual disabilities. Students need to learn life skills in order to be successful after they graduate. My job as a teacher is to find ways to give them real life opportunities that will aide them after high school. Our school is a country school with only one employment opportunity within walking distance. Therefore, the students have little access to real life opportunities or an ATM at our high school.
