My students range in age from 4 years old to 11; yes, from K to 5. They come from diverse backgrounds in the country's MOST diverse county (Queens, NY). Our school is amazing at making a small NYC school budget stretch a long way. However, adding a new language program can be prohibitively expensive. That's why I feel, given this opportunity, I need to make the kids fall in love with learning a language, just as I did (multiple times) while growing up. We can't have these modern, tech-savvy kids, sitting and reciting from a text book - particularly the little ones. They are used to, and learn best, when they are fully immersed and taught in a way that speaks to their interests...enter technology. I want to present lessons using our existing SmartBoard technology that can incorporate singing, videos, lively images, and interactive games. Students will be using the same technology they crave, but are too often denied during a traditional school day.
