My students are the lowest of the grade level and so eager to learn. I try to model everything for them, which usually requires me to draw the worksheet on the board. Every morning I make sure they have eaten breakfast. Many times I fix the girls hair, send students to wash faces, and help fix their clothes. At our school, we provide free breakfast because of the level of poverty in our community. We are a Title One district with a high Hispanic and African American population. Our district is intent on raising attendance and test scores by ten percent.
