Our class would benefit from having these wonderful tables to perform science experiments and hands-on math activities. It would be so fantastic for the children to have a large, flat surface to spread out their materials and work together as a team, constructing and problem solving. In one science investigation unit the students construct vehicles and experiment with weights and rolling the vehicles. This experiment requires a large, smooth surface to move the vehicles, adding weights, and collaborating to determine how the motion of the vehicle changes when weight is used to pull them. Another science unit involves working with crawfish and owl pellets. They do everything from dissecting owl pellets and identifying their bones to examining the crawfish and recording the differences. Science is so important and the children's faces light up when they discover something new on their own. My students learn so much from hands-on, real world, science and math experiences. They become empowered when they are problem solving and collaborating with their classmates. Having large tables to work together in small groups will allow my students the space to focus on their projects, collaborate with their peers, and record their results in their data notebooks.
