Self-worth plays a major role in scholar success across content areas. Through health and physical education lessons, scholars will be introduced to social-emotional learning and discuss stress management and self-care as it relates to all the components of personal wellness.
We train for success, so scholars set health goals that relate to increasing daily physical activity using the components of health-related fitness. With this iPad, scholars will be able to research various health topics set-up as a station in my classroom that relates to their health goal. (I can explain one component of fitness and name three exercises to improve my health.) It will also help me to efficiently run this motivated running program that rewards scholars for each mile they run at home and the courses set up at school. We do pre- and post-training assessments so scholars can compare their data to each other and develop new goals for themselves. The system works with a QR code so scholars can use the iPad to scan and get their run data immediately after running a real race.
All data is charted with a bar graph as a comparison tool they can use with classmates. I could even set it up like a race and award prizes for finishing times. This technology gives my scholars an authentic learning experience while at school. It will assist them in making real-life connections in the community. The possibilities soon become a reality for the dreamers, as they begin to believe they too, can achieve more!
