Think about where you do your best work. Is it at a desk? In a big comfy chair? On the floor? Students are often expected to all work in the same type of seating but really that only meets the needs of some students. By changing up seating options in my classroom, I'm hoping to meet the needs of every learner. Round tables will allow students who work best in a chair that option. Students who need more movement can sit or kneel closer to the floor on a wobble disk. Students who want to work on the floor will have that option, and research shows the benefits this has on strengthening core muscles and handwriting. Right now my students have long tables and chairs that we can work with, but I believe that my students deserve the best environment they can get. By offering different seating options, I'm hoping to create a safe and welcoming classroom for my students.
