Our school is year-round, so my new school year starts on July 9th. I have 29 students, mostly Latino and Vietnamese, who have qualified for GATE. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but in general, we are in a low socioeconomic area. 90% of our students come to school speaking a language other than English. 92% of our students qualify for free and reduced price lunch. Our students like soccer and the Minions from Despicable Me. They like Minecraft and doing card tricks to impress their friends. They love scary movies. Our school is filled with the best teachers there are. We work hard, and consistently try to improve in order to meet the needs of our students. We collaborate regularly to make sure that we are providing the best instruction for every student. We focus on the 3 B's. Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe. We use this mantra in the classroom and on the playground so that all of our 1100 students feel that school is a comfortable, safe place to be.
